Katonah Art Center to Hold 12th Annual Student Exhibit

KATONAH, NY.- “Watercolor does not give up its secrets on the first date, says Cindy Sacks, watercolor instructor at the Katonah Art Center. The most difficult thing I teach my students is patience.”

That patience has paid off. Ms. Sacks’s students, along with other KAC students, will show their work at the Katonah Art Center’s 12th Annual Student Exhibit, from June 6 through June 27 at the Katonah Village Library. The kick-off reception will be held on June 6 from 2-4PM, where KAC instructors and students will be on hand to discuss their work with family, friends, and the public.

One of the students exhibiting in the show, Mary Rausser, selected her watercolor “City Scene” for the Exhibit, “because it’s different from my other work.” Ms. Rausser has taken three classes with Ms. Sacks and credits her “keen eye and great creativity” for inspiring her to go further with her art. “You think the painting is done, and then Cindy sees a tiny little thing….and it really changes the whole picture!”

The Exhibit also includes work by complete beginners, such as Maryan Plumeri. Ms. Plumeri found Ms. Sacks’s class difficult at the start, but she responded to Ms. Sacks’s “non-judgmental, encouraging” style. Ms. Plumeri’s watercolor “Firehose” will be in the exhibit, painted from a photograph collected by her husband, an artist as well. Ms. Plumeri has been taught patience by Ms. Sacks and “to enjoy the process.”

Ms. Sacks has been an instructor at The Katonah Art Center for over five years. Winner of the prestigious Waterworks 2006 Award for best watercolor, she has paintings in regional exhibitions, galleries, and in corporate and private collections.
