MADRID.- The Real Jardín Botánico opened the first individual exhibition in Spain of an artist living in Brazil who has performed actions in the domestic and everyday space. The exhibition shows more than 30 photographs and recent production videos including her last project, Move.

Sara Ramo appropriates everyday elements and scenes, removing them from their places of origin and relocating them in videos, photographs, collages, sculptures and installations. Ramo studies the moment in which objects stop having meaning in people’s lives to create situations in which tranquillity is lost and world order appears to be in crisis.

Sara Remo’s first solo exhibition in Spain offers a tour of her latest production. The show comprises over 30 photographs in various formats from series such as Trama para palco (Plot for the Theatre Box) (2007), Por todos los lados (On All Sides) (2008), Algunos días pasados en el espacio (Some Days Spent in Space) and Simetrías (Symmetries) (2008). The exhibition is completed with several videos, outstanding among them her latest production Traslado (Move) (2008). In these works, the artist shows banal actions that are full of meaning in domestic space or in settings she herself has created in search of an encounter between reality and fiction.

Sara Ramo (Madrid, 1975) studied fine art in Madrid and graduated in painting from the Minas Gerais University in Brazil, where she has lived for years. Represented by the Fortes Vilaça gallery in Sao Paulo, she has had solo exhibitions in Brazilian art centres including the Pampulha Museum. She has also participated in group exhibitions at the Venice Biennale, the Videoformes Festival in Clermont-Ferrand and the CGAC in Santiago de Compostela.
