JACKSON HOLE, WY.- Surprising fact: Some of Jackson Hole’s most impressive wildlife is indoors. Emerging like a natural stone outcropping from a butte overlooking the National Elk Refuge’s real-world habitat, the National Museum of Wildlife Art offers a different take on wildlife as it is expressed through the fine arts, with an eye to exploring humanity’s relationship with nature. Featuring top examples from pre-historic to contemporary, in a variety of media and encompassing such familiar names as Audubon, Picasso, O’Keeffe, Warhol, Wyeth and even Rembrandt, the museum’s collection includes more than 5,000 catalogued items.

Located on the way to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, the National Museum of Wildlife Art makes a great family roadside attraction, with kid-friendly activities from animal footprints on the floors to fun kid kits to “Young at Art” programs. Step out on the terrace to check out any live critters wandering by, appreciate the timeless eco-message in an irresistible upcoming summer exhibition based on Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, or mingle with locals at innovative cultural fare like Art Alive @ 12:05 and summer wildlife film series.

A member of Museums West and accredited by the American Association of Museums, the National Museum of Wildlife Art offers an exciting calendar of exhibitions from its permanent collection and changing exhibitions from around the globe and has been featured in media including the L.A. Times and The New York Times. Museum visitors enjoy 14 distinctive galleries, the Museum Shop, Rising Sage Café, the Children’s Discovery Gallery, the Library and unique programming for all ages.
