MADRID.- The Romanian photographer presents an exhibition including composition created with pictures taken from the same point of view in different moments.

These works rethink about the phenomenon of memory and oblivion throughout a spatial coherence and temporal discontinuity.

Iosif Király’s production revolves around photography, installations, mail-art, video art and performance art. His experimentation with new formats and digital techniques is clear in Reconstructions, an exhibition organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid, in which the artist studies how he remembers and forgets people, places and events.

The images are composed of various perspectives in which each shot represents a piece of information and memory. They are all taken from the same viewpoint but at different times (minutes, days, months and even years), which lends spatial coherence to the final image as well as temporal discontinuity. Each reconstruction is influenced by factors such as the context in which it occurred, the artist’s emotional state upon remembering it and the experiences that have been added until the moment the artist recalls the instant.

In addition to his individual research, Iosif Király (Romania, 1957) has been a member of the subREAL project since 1990 and has worked with a group of architects on documentary projects regarding the changes that have shaken life in post-communist Romania. He has taught photography since 1992 at the University of Bucharest, where he is a founding member of the photography and video department. Király has shown his work in galleries and art centres throughout Europe and at the biennials of Venice (1993) and Istanbul (1992).
