Angel Beccassino Shows His Talent with Exhibition of Works of Art in Colombia

BARRANQUILLA, COLOMBIA.- A man with great talent, be it in advertising as well as in poetry, and with the handling of images as well as sounds. And all sounds! He has even studied the language of whales.

Each word he writes has cadence, each image is a poem. Whatever Angel does has a “hook” that captivates anyone.

He also shoots artistic videos as well as publish beautiful profound books. A tireless traveler, he has gone around the world as if it were a trip to a soccer field.

Angel was born in Argentina and now lives in Colombia. He always surprises people with his works because of their originality and simplicity.

He has, as a creator, the level that few reach, that of a genius.

And yesterday in Barranquilla, Colombia, Ángel Beccassino and Gilberto Cerón have united and added their talents to create a controversial exhibition.

Gilberto Cerón defined himself in a direct form: ¨ My art work does not seek unity in style nor is painting its only medium. It is iconoclastic and eclectic. A polyphormic space where creativity springs from the technical medium and subject matter best proportioned to its vital force.”

“Correspondence between medium and subject matter is basic: the medium must attract the theme so as to reveal its sense from the center outwards, organically. As in gestation¨, he added.

As Laura Juliana Muñoz points out in her review of the exhibition in El Espectador: ¨Cerón —the artist of the anthropomorphous and the erotic, the painter and jeweler, recognized since 1978— created 22 paintings that start off from the same scheme: the sister that touches the other’s tip of the breast and the metal ring held delicately. In each sketch the story changes and the women convert into angels and demons, beasts and nuns, cadavers and monsters.

To the artist, “the illustration is the key and the poem the lock”. That is why he needed a complement to make the eroticism of his strokes more evident to the spectators. “Insinuations and suggestions, impatient skin, flavors in the tongue…” that’s the way Ángel Beccassino —the poet and “key”— started to translate the images.

Becca, multifacetic as ever, has stepped on the grounds of advertising, writing, music and photography with tendencies toward females, the erotic and modesty. In fact, he will again team up with Cerón and they will photograph a pair of nude models that will represent Gabrielle d’Estrées and one of her sisters. The resulting images will go along with the exhibition during its tour through Cartagena and Barranquilla.
