Three Architects Praise Gehry

BILBAO, SPAIN.- The Guggenheim Bilbao held a dialogue with three architects on the works of Frank O. Gehry, to whom an exhibition is dedicated. Japanese Arata Isozaki, French Jean Nouvel and Austrian Wolf Dieter Prix praised the "icon" craeted by Gehry in Bilbao and his influence in contemporary architecture. Paul Finch, editorial director of the magazines Architect's Journal and Architectural Review presented the three architects as professionals that took different paths after their schools. "They make a different architecture, they olny belong to themselves," stated Finch. The three architects have connections among them for their collaborations with the Guggenheim museums. During the dialogue, Nouvel stated that the "ghost of Gehry" was present. He stated, "In today's world it is requiered that architects more than functional buildings, they should create icons." Prix underlined the influence of Gehry in the 21st century's architecture.
