VIENNA, AUSTRIA.- The mercantile focus of the new cultural policy in Austria is causing controversy among museum directors and directors of other cultural institutions. According to Heinz Lunzer, directror of the House of Literature, "The current situation is a catastrophe with very few exceptions". Peter Noever, director of the Museum of Applied Arts, stated, "That the museum directors become company managers can be funny and sexy, but has no sense." Lóránd Hegyi resigned from his job as director of the Museum of Modern Art- Ludwig Foundation. Peter Noever closed the exhibit halls during the first four months of the past year as a measure of resistance.
