Galerie Ludorff Presents Important Paintings by Expressionist Emil Nolde
Emil Nolde, "Gartenblumen mit violetten und gelben Blüten", ca. 1950, signed. Watercolour on Japan paper, 16.6 x 20.1 cm. Certificate of Authenticity: Prof. Dr. Manfred Reuther, Stiftung Ada und Emil Nolde, Seebüll.

DUSSELDORF.- Galerie Ludorff presents an exhibition of important paintings, watercolours and prints by expressionist icon Emil Nolde.

The exhibition comprises more than thirty paintings, watercolours and some of his most important prints.

It brings together some of his very early prints, some of his most important works from the Brücke years and the winters spent in Berlin from 1905 to the 1920’s.

At the centre of the exhibition are two bodies of work that concentrate on showing Nolde’s most important achievement – the deliberation of colour.

A group of six of his most delicate watercolours show his love for the rural landscape in Northern Germany . Impressive sunsets meet humid grounds. Farm houses and wind mills are set before night skies and landscapes of clouds with the sun just sparkling through show Nolde on the very top of his game.

Another group of four watercolours show his love for flowers as a metaphor of life with all its facets of birth, growth, the splendour and the decay.

Very rare and important works such as the illustrated “Kopf eines Javaners” underline the adventurous and unique approach of the artist, who in 1913/14 travelled via Eastern Europe , Russia , China , Japan to see and study the raw life of the people in the South Sea , whose life hadn’t been transformed by modern civilisation yet.

All works are for sale. A catalogue with an essay (german) by Prof. Dr. Manfred Reuther, director of the Stiftung Seebüll Ada und Emil Nolde has been published. It is available for EUR 20 plus shipping in our web shop or via the gallery.

The opening hours for the exhibition are from 10 am to 6 pm on Tue, Wed, Thu and Fridays and from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. The gallery remains closed on Sunday and Monday.
