Random House Publisher Services to Handle Sales and Distribution for Smithsonian Books

WASHINGTON, DC.- Smithsonian Books has reached an agreement with Random House Publisher Services for worldwide sales and distribution of its title catalog beginning March 27.

“We look forward to working with Random House Publisher Services,” said Carolyn Gleason, director of Smithsonian Books. “Random House is an industry leader in sales and marketing, and their academic, library and international marketplace representation will work well with our list. We will also take advantage of their production resources, state-of-the-art warehouse facilities and expertise in the emerging area of electronic publishing.”

“We always appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a premiere brand and publishing program; Smithsonian Books represents the best of both,” said Jeff Abraham, president of Random House Publisher Services.

Smithsonian Books publishes a select list of illustrated, photography, reference and narrative nonfiction books. The publishing program includes categories where the Smithsonian’s authority is unparalleled: history, art, culture, anthropology, archaeology, science and technology, aviation and space.

Smithsonian Books is part of Smithsonian Media, which includes Smithsonian magazine, Air & Space, goSmithsonian, Smithsonian Media Digital Network and the Smithsonian Channel. Smithsonian Media is a division of Smithsonian Enterprises, the revenue-generating business unit of the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum and research complex consisting of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park and nine research facilities. Approximately 30 million people from around the world visited the Smithsonian in 2009.
