NEW YORK, NY.- The Gabarron Foundation in New York presents Spanish artist Javier Riaño (Bilbao, 1959), whose works will be shown from May 19 to July 15. This series reflects the interests that the artist has developed in recent years.
Javier Riaño emerged from the artistic context of the Basque Country during the 1980s, into a stream of artists who were then developing realistic figurative work; this sometimes led to the hyper-touch, and made the ruins of industrial architecture and the dark alleys of Bilbao the main focus of his work. The emphasis on architecture, found in his first series, soon became a recurring theme. As a result, the artists creative streak has exploded in the last five years. Riaños most recent works, which will be shown at the Gabarrón Foundation, continue the themes he had developed in the eighties and early nineties.
Unlike the city, no excessive images overload the retina. Thus, regardless of the cause or consequence, there is no noise. In that silence emerges what some call the spirit of the place; the soul travels through these places, as we do, dominated by thoughtful silence friendly or frightening, it is up to everyone.
The Gabarron Foundation-Carriage House Center for the Arts is a non-profit institution and an exclusive international center specializing in art exhibitions and other cultural activities. Since 2002, we have achieved in offering a platform in the United States for spreading Spanish culture, and, above all, contemporary art. At the same time, our organization promotes exchange and understanding between Spanish and American cultures, providing a space for interaction and for an enhanced appreciation of emerging and established cultural figures from both countries.
