MEXICO CITY.- Representative sites of the Revolutionary movement headed by Emiliano Zapata in Morelos are object of maintenance and restoration. Four historical buildings part of the “Ruta de Zapata”, among them, Tlaltizapan Ex Cuartel, where he planned military operations, and Chinameca Ex Hacienda, where he was murdered in April 10th 1919.

Attention to these sites, as well as Anenecuilco and Casa de Morelos Museums, has being conducted for several weeks with the contribution of the Temporary Employment Program (PET) implemented by the Secretariat Social Development (SEDESOL) and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), which generates 617 temporary positions occupied by persons from eastern Morelos State.

INAH supervises and regulates work that includes integral cleaning, minor restoration and green areas recovery; in the case of Taltizapan Ex Cuartel, 1.5 million MXP have been invested and 196 temporary posts generated.

Under the supervision of architect Francisco Javier Garcia Villagran from Morelos INAH Center, workers will clean the roof and recover the original stone paved road at the former stables area, as well as the orchard.

“To recover the orchard, we count on with the advisory of biologists from the INAH Ethno Botanical Garden and Traditional Medicine Museum, who determined the species to be planted here.

“A structure built in mid-20th century in the orchard area will be demolished, since it is not part of the original construction”, mentioned Garcia Villagran.

After maintenance work is finished the museographic renovation will begin, “so the Museo de la Revolucion del Sur (Southern Revolution Museum) can be re opened in time for the Centennial, so people can admire clothes and other personal objects of Zapata, as well as pictures, coins and weapons of the period”.

At Chinameca Ex Hacienda, the perimeter wall will be flattened, and it will undergo cleaning and minor maintenance.

Architect Fernando Duarte, in charge of work at Chinameca, and part of Morelos INAH Center as well, mentioned that 326 persons have been temporarily hired to conduct the work that includes retirement of cobbles at the main façade, where the leader of the Southern Revolution was gunned down in 1919.

The other 2 sites of Zapata Route to be renewed thanks to PET are the Museum of Anenecuilco, where Zapata was born in August 8th 1879, and Museum Casa de Morelos, in Cuautla.
