LONDON.- Bonhams will hold their first ever Picasso Editions Sale featuring ceramics, silver and prints by the most celebrated artist of the 20th century, in Knightsbridge on Thursday 23rd September. The sale offers buyers the opportunity to lay their table with over £100,000 worth of plates, jugs and dishes decorated with vibrant and joyful designs by one of the 20th century's most inventive artists.

“Picasso was one of the most important ceramicists of the 20th century because of the newness of his approach, because of the way he worked by appropriating and then transforming the object into an image and concept.”

“Picasso had long complained about the instability of oil paint, which is subject to slow deterioration and which in a 100 years hence cannot offer the observer the exact picture painted by the artist. The colours of ceramics however, once baked, do not change. Thus Picasso found that lasting stableness which he had been looking for.”

“[these are] compositions whose themes express the joyous, life-loving side of Picasso’s work.”

Ruth Graham of Bonhams comments, “The forthcoming auction at Bonhams offers an exciting opportunity to collect works by one of the 20th century’s pre-eminent artists. There is always much interest in the work of Picasso, and strong results and continued demand for Picasso’s editions featured in previous auctions, including ceramics, silver and prints, has led to the introduction of this sale dedicated solely to these items.”
