NEWPORT, RI.- The Newport Antiques Show celebrates its fourth year at St. George’s School in Middletown, RI August 13 through August 15, 2010. Already one of the nation’s premier shows, the annual show presents a superb selection of important Americana and is known to showcase nautically themed antiques. A select group of dealers presents paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts in a scenic oceanside setting. All net proceeds from the event benefit the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County.

Antiques & Fine Arts described the 2009 Newport Antiques Show as “glamorous” and “a winner.” New England Home Magazine called it “high end” while Antiques and the Arts Weekly raved that it is “elegant and tasteful…upscale.” This signature event in the Newport social calendar launches on Friday evening, August 13 with a Gala Preview Party from 6pm to 9pm which SOCO Magazine described in 2009 as “beautiful” and “wonderful.”

William Vareika Fine Arts, Ltd., specializing in the purchase and sale of important 18th, 19th and early 20th century American paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints, renews its commitment as the 2010 Presenting Sponsor. Anne Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia will return as Chair of the Show and Gala Preview Party.

The 2010 loan exhibition will feature miniature portraits on ivory and American scrimshaw, most with a Newport connection, from the collections of the Newport Historical Society. A guest expert will discuss the art of scrimshaw and the items in the loan exhibition on the morning of Saturday August 13.

Show manager Diana H. Bittel selects over forty of the nation’s finest dealers. Ms. Bittel, known for her work with the Antiques Council, serving as the Director of Shows and as the Council liaison to the Nantucket Historical Society Antiques Show, is herself a distinguished antiques dealer.

The Newport Antiques Show opens at 10am and closes at 6pm on Saturday, August 14 and at 5pm on Sunday August 15.
