BLM Wraps Up Meetings on Colorado River Art Proposal
This drawing provided by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude shows the under side of a section of the Arkansas River in southern Colorado that would be draped with material in the "Over the River Project" that Christo and Jeanne-Claude have been planning since 1992. The Bureau of Land Management released its draft environmental study on Friday, July 16, 2010 saying the Christo's "Over the River" project could have moderate to significant impact on bighorn sheep and historical sites. DENVER (AP).- Artist Christo says he's not going to speculate about his next step if federal regulators don't support his proposal to suspend huge fabric panels over the Arkansas River in Colorado.

Christo and his late wife, Jeanne-Claude, proposed temporarily hanging a total of nearly six miles of fabric in eight spots along a 42-mile stretch of the river as early as 2013.

The Bureau of Land Management held meetings this week in Canon City, Salida, Cotopaxi and Denver for the public to comment on its draft environmental impact statement on the "Over the River" project.

Critics have said it could ruin local tourism, fishing, wildlife habitat and traffic. Christo's team said Thursday there are many misconceptions about the project.
