MONTEREY, CA.- RM delivered a one, two punch in Monterey this past weekend during the years pinnacle event for the collector car hobby, posting the weeks highest auction results of $67 million in total sales with an impressive 95% of all lots sold, and clinching an unprecedented fourth Best of Show win in 10 years at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours dElegance with the stunning 1933 Delage D8S de Villars Roadster.
The companys highly-anticipated Sports & Classics of Monterey event, August 12 14, kicked off the weekend in grand style, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Montereys first and original collector car auction with the most significant auction offering ever presented on the Peninsula. In total, 16 lots achieved individual million-dollar-plus results, the most recorded by any single auction house during this years Monterey auto week. Top-sellers included an exquisite 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C Lago Speciale with coachwork by Figoni et Falaschi, and an exceptional 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta, the fifth of only seven examples built, each selling for $4,620,000. In addition, a rare 1948 Tucker 48 Sedan set a new world record for a Tucker sold at auction, selling for $1,127,500.
We are thoroughly pleased with the results from the weekends sale. They build upon RMs seven previous successful sales this year, including the record-breaking inaugural Monaco event, and are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire RM team, says Rob Myers, Founder and Chairman, RM Auctions.
The high-caliber of consignments combined with accurate estimates provided by our expert team of car specialists led to the very strong 95 percent sell-through and record number of over 1,000 bidder registrations from 29 countries around the world, including Monaco, Brazil, Japan and the United Arab Emirates, Myers added.
RMs strong Sports & Classics of Monterey auction results were complemented by success on the show field on Sunday when the stunning 1933 Delage D8S de Villars Roadster, owned by The Patterson Collection in Louisville, Kentucky, and restored by RM Auto Restoration, was named Best of Show at the world-renowned Pebble Beach Concours dElegance. The win represents RMs fourth at Pebble Beach in the past decade, with top honors previously received in 2001, 2004 and 2006, cementing the companys reputation as the worlds premier restoration facility for vintage automobiles. Other award-winning entries that have passed through RM Auto Restorations doors included the 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton, owned by Charles Letts of Detroit, Michigan, and the 1934 Packard Sports Coupe, owned by Ralph and Adeline Marano of Westfield, New Jersey.
