Antik A.S. Auction in Istanbul Features Masterpieces from Modern Turkish Art

ISTANBUL.- On 7 November, The leading Turkish auction house, Antik A.S. will offer masterpieces of Modern and Contemporary Turkish Art. The sale consisting of selected 180 lots among the finest which ever to have appeared on the market for the first time. Special collection will be exhibited in Antik A.S. galleries during the dates 27 October – 7 November.

Olgac Artam, auctioneer of the sale, said “the sale is giving art lovers an opportunity to own extraordinary masterpieces that were hitherto only found in museums.” By displaying the art works together, Artam predicts that these works will make a great impact on the market. He invites all those who appreciate quality art to view the display before the sale.

One of the highlights being offered is a 352x112 cm painting by one of the most important Turkish abstract artists, Mübin Orhon, who lived in Paris. The painting is dated 1962 and being presented at auction for the first time. Bidding for this Mübin Orhon’s astounding monumental painting will open at 450,000 Euro.

Another modern Turkish masterpiece which will be offered at auction is a 185x230 cm. oil painting by the most famous Turkish female artist, Fahr El Nisa Zeid. The opening bid for this 1950-1953 work of art, which was found in an old collection that belonged to H.R.H. Prince Raad bin Zeid Al-Hussein, is 400,000 Euro.

Four works on the subject of “Ribbons” by one of the most important Turkish living artists, Burhan Doğançay and master figurist Neşet Günal’s masterpiece, “Scarecrow” are some of the spectacular works that will be auctioned. Works by Mehmet Güleryüz that will be presented to delight art lovers for the first time include “The Fall” (250x180 cm.), “The Yellow Room” (200x180 cm.) and the 1975 dated “Measurage”. Exciting works of art from the artists’ respective periods that will be auctioned, include Alaeddin Aksoy’s important works “Happiness” and “Dream”, abstract Turkish artist Selim Turan’s masterpiece which he painted during his Paris period, and Ömer Uluç’s three important works such as the “Woman in Pink”

Besides a very special collection of works by Mübin Orhon from his Paris period, the auction will include abstract and figurative works by Hakkı Anlı for the first time. Other pieces presented to lovers of art will consist of museum works by Erol Akyavaş, many pieces by Adnan Çoker, specially chosen works by Nes’e Erdok, Nejad Melih Devrim, Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu, Eren Eyüboğlu, Avni Arbaş, Sabri Berkel, Ihsan Cemal Karaburcak, Cihat Burak, Orhan Peker, Nedim Gunsur, Neset Gunal, Ferruh Başaga, Komet, Burhan Uygur, Edip Hakki Koseoglu, Turan Erol, Oya Zaim Katoglu, Ergin Inan, Balkan Naci Islimyeli, Kemal Onsoy, Gungor Taner, Asım Isler, Abddurrahman Oztoprak, Zekai Ormancı, Sadan Bezeyis, Canan Tolon, Haluk Akakce, Azade Koker, Ismet Dogan and Kezban Arca Batibeki which have established milestones in Turkish Art.

Olgaç Artam is organizing the auction which will be held at the Swissotel The Bosphorus on November 7, 2010. Presenting a very important auction in the field of Modern and Contemporary Turkish Art, featuring works by artists who were great masters in their periods. A special catalogue has been prepared for the collection that will be on displayed at the Antik A.S. main building, from October 27 to November 7. Many examples of the museum-quality artworks and masterpieces from 1950s to this day will be presented for the auction.

The exhibition-worthy collection is a veritable museum of artwork and shouldn’t be passed up by anyone who has an interest in Turkish modern and contemporary art.

Some of the last season’s successful sales include Erol Akyavas’s “The Siege” (1,274,000 EURO), Burhan Dogancay’s “Symphony in Blue” (1,260.000 EURO) and Fahr El Nisa Zeid’s “London” (650,000 EURO).

Paintings by international artists such as Julian Opie, Arman Fernandez and Peter Halley, Chinese Artist Zang Dali and Italian artist Marcello Guidice are also among the few international works that will be offered at auction.
