JACKSON, MISS. (AP).- Two photographs pairing artistic giants of the 20th century— author William Faulkner and photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson — are coming back home to Mississippi.

The portraits of Faulkner were shot by the French photojournalist in 1947. They were recently bought by the University of Mississippi from a Los Angeles art consultant, whose colleague acquired them in France.

University museum director William Pittman Andrews declined to say what they cost.

The photos of Faulkner were taken at Rowan Oak, his Greek Revival house in Oxford that now functions as a Faulkner museum run by the university.

Copies of the photos will be displayed at Rowan Oak, while the originals will be displayed, at some point, in the university museum about a mile away
