LIVERPOOL.- Visitors can meet Rex the juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex for four days of free prehistoric hysterics 2 – 5 December 2010 at World Museum.

The animated dinosaur has been a sensation in the United States and Australia where it has given thousands of people the opportunity to see a walking, moving T. rex. Now he’s coming to the UK for the first time.

Dinomania! features the T. rex making regular appearances throughout the day between 1pm and 4pm on Friday 3 Dec and 11am to 4pm hours on Saturday and Sunday 4 and 5 December 2010.

Tyrannosaurus rex roamed what is now the western USA during the Cretaceous period before disappearing with the rest of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

A fully-grown T. rex was more than 42 feet long, stood 13 ft tall at the shoulder and weighed seven tons. One of the largest known land predators, it could run at about 25 mph. First described in 1905, Tyrannosaurus rex means tyrant lizard king in a mixture of Greek and Latin.

One of the hidden treasures of the World Museum on display is an 80 million-year-old dinosaur egg not seen by the public for decades. It is one of 25 eggs laid by an Oviraptor – a small dinosaur that lived in Mongolia, and can be seen until the end of January 2011.

The nest was discovered by renowned palaeontologist Roy Chapman Andrews in 1923.

Andrews was a flamboyant explorer and adventurer said to be among those who inspired the Indiana Jones film character played by Harrison Ford.

There are lots of exciting dinosaur events being staged throughout the museum during the four days of Dinomania!

They include face painting, mask and badge making, gallery talks and tours and the chance to handle some real dinosaur bones in the Clore Natural History Centre.
