Art New York Launches at Javits Center

NEW YORK, Creating a special niche in the prestigious roster of New York shows, Art New York celebrates its inaugural fair this spring. An intimate fair whose purpose is to link curious new collectors with both young and established galleries, Art New York debuts in the Javits Center Galleria from 5:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. on Thurs., Feb. 27.
According to Joyce Jamison, show director, the galleria is an ideal setting for the launch of a smaller, more intimate fair, displaying art from U.S. galleries and twelve other countries. “In the midst of the larger art fairs and whirlwind events taking place that week, Art New York will present a fresh mix of contemporary work from galleries, many of whom have never before exhibited in New York. Because the setting will be more intimate, collectors can explore and discover new work in a much more relaxed atmosphere,” Jamison explained.
Art New York will showcase an eclectic array of paintings, works on paper, sculpture, photography and objects. The fair is expected to attract thousands of private collectors, art dealers, corporate buyers, and others interested in discovering unknown artists and purchasing works of art for their new and existing collections.
“Our goal forArt New York is to create a dynamic showcase for contemporary, original work that is being seen for the first time,” said Jamison. A special section of the fair where this is particularly evident is Currents New York. A selection of younger galleries will present the works of cutting-edge, emerging local and international artists, many under the age of 35. “Currents is where collectors will be able to spot new trends and find exciting new artists preparing to take center stage on the contemporary art scene,” said Jamison.
Art New York is closely associated with Art Miami director Ilana Vardy. Vardy, along with her team, is serving as a consultant for Art New York’s launch, working closely with Art New York show director Joyce Jamison on determining the show’s design, logistics and participating galleries. Art New York is produced by Advanstar Communications, a leading publisher of business magazines and organizers of trade shows and major expositions.
