“Art & Home: Dutch Interiors” at Denver Art Museum |

DENVER, COLORADO.- The Denver Art Museum holds a landmark exhibition of Dutch master works that includes an exceedingly rare opportunity to see a Johannes Vermeer painting - one of only 36 attributed to the artist. Art & Home: Dutch Interiors in the Age of Rembrandt, on view through May 26, 2002, includes some 50 paintings by artists including Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Pieter de Hooch, paired with 70 domestic treasures from prosperous 17th century Dutch homes. When merchants with newly acquired money and aristocratic taste demanded paintings, furniture, silver, porcelain, textiles, and decorative art for their homes. This exhibition pairs 70 domestic objects from prosperous Dutch homes with more than 50 complementary paintings - including A Lady Writing, a rare and stunning Johannes Vermeer painting (one of only 36 pieces attributed to the master) - and several treasured works by the legendary Rembrandt. Art & Home is organized into four primary sections that focus on marriage, family, domestic roles and leisure. The exhibition includes several interactive educational elements including a self-guided audio tour and a full-scale room evocative of a 17th century Dutch interior for visitors to explore. Organized jointly by the Denver Art Museum and The Newark Museum, the exhibition is one of the most complex shows ever assembled by the Denver Art Museum and draws on loans from 64 museums and private collections.
