Children can Have Fun with Picasso this Christmas at the Art Gallery of Western Australia

PERTH.- Children are being offered a fun way of seeing their first Picasso this Christmas holidays at the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s Peggy Guggenheim: A Collection in Venice exhibition.

A special primary school-aged Children’s Trail has been set up to help youngsters discover fascinating information about the artists and their works, and to help de-mystify the paintings and sculptures.

“Surreal and Abstract art can be intimidating for some, but the Children’s Trail, along with an Audio Tour on offer for older children and visitors, helps people put themselves in the shoes of the artists and understand more about their works,” Gallery Director Stefano Carboni said.

“This is one of the best art exhibitions to take children to because its collector – Peggy Guggenheim – has an amazing story. She launched the careers of many artists who are today household names. And the works themselves are pieces children would have hours of fun trying to ‘reproduce’ with their own painting kits at home."

“This is a fun, enjoyable way for people of all ages to see some of the world’s most amazing masterpieces. And who knows, some children could be inspired to follow in the footsteps of Pablo Picasso or Jackson Pollock!”

“This is a fantastic chance to give children the opportunity to see an outstanding collection of art, which is normally only on display in Peggy Guggenheim’s former home in Venice,” Dr Carboni said.

The exhibition is the first in a new five-year series to be hosted by the Art Gallery of Western Australia and partnered by Eventscorp, entitled, Great Collections of the World.
