Biennale of Sydney Announces Penelope Seidler AM as New Board Director

SYDNEY.- ‘We are pleased to announce Penelope Seidler AM as a Board Director of the Biennale of Sydney,’ said Chairman Luca Belgiorno-Nettis. ‘Penelope has been a long-time supporter of the Biennale and is a highly regarded figure in Sydney’s cultural fabric. With her, she brings a deep passion for contemporary art and a broad working knowledge of both Australian and international arts organisations. We are extremely honoured and delighted to welcome Penelope to the board.’

Penelope Seidler said: ‘I am pleased to join the Board of this inspiring institution. I am excited to be working with an organisation that brings contemporary art– something I have been involved with for many years through our architectural practice– to the forefront of public awareness. I look forward to working with my fellow Board Directors and Chief Executive Officer, Marah Braye, to further build on the strengths of the Biennale.’

Marah Braye, Chief Executive Officer, Biennale of Sydney, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Penelope Seidler and proud that the Biennale continues to attract Board Directors with a wealth of experience.

Penelope attended the inaugural Biennale of Sydney in 1973 and has visited each Biennale of Sydney exhibition since then – an extraordinarily impressive record. Penelope is a stalwart champion of both the Biennale of Sydney and contemporary art and we thank Penelope for her dedicated support and enthusiasm for what we do.’

Penelope Seidler currently holds a number of leadership roles in the business and community sectors, both locally and internationally, including: Board of Directors, International Council, Museum of Modern Art, New York; Member, International Advisory Board MAK (Museum of Applied Arts and Contemporary Art), Vienna; Member, Australian Commissioner’s Council, Venice Biennale (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011); Member, University of New South Wales Built Environment Advisory Council; Chairman, Acquisitions Committee and Council Member, The Australiana Fund; and CEO, Harry Seidler & Associates.
