Spectacular 1882 $20 Gold Certificate Headlines Heritage Tampa FUN Currency Auction



DALLAS, TX.- Heritage Auctions, the official auctioneer of the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Show, will present a substantial number of rare and exceptional notes as part of its Signature® Currency Auction, Jan. 6-10, in Tampa FL. A total of 5970 lots will be offered in four floor sessions that will take place Jan. 6-8, and two online-only sessions that will take place Jan. 9-10 in Dallas.

The Auction is anchored by The Menlo Park Collection, The Dr. Larry Miller Collection, The Dee Panda Collection, The R.J. Bradley Collection, The Nicholas J. Buyer Collection and The Everglades Collection of Florida National Bank Notes.

The auction will also include a Serial Number One Fr. 1175 $20 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15 that carries an estimate of $400,000 to $500,000. This spectacular Gold Certificate is one of only two known, with the other example listed in the census, but yet to make an auction appearance.

A spectacular Chicago district note with a pedigree to the Amon Carter, Jr. Collection, a Fr. 1132G $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note with a grade of PCGS Choice About New 58, will also be offered. The gorgeous $500 has an estimate of $40,000 and up.

Also included in the auction is a Low Serial Number Low Serial Number Fr. 1922-K* $1 1995 Federal Reserve Note Original Pack of 100 with serial numbers 1 through 100 that is Superb Gem Crisp Uncirculated. The pack is estimated to realize $50,000 to $75,000.

One, starting at 6 p.m. Eastern, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, features The Nicholas J. Bruyer and Dee Panda Collections. Mr. Bruyer assembled one of the most extensive collections of U.S. Postal Notes and it was his articles and research over the last few decades that advanced the collecting community’s knowledge of these notes. The collection includes many notes that are unique for the location and a unique Washington Territorial Note. A complete Confederate Currency type set will be offered as part of the Dee Panda Collection, including the elusive T1 through T4 Montgomery issues. Also included in Session One is Colonial Currency, Fractional Currency, Encased Postage, Obsolete Bank Notes, Military Payment Certificates, and World Paper Money.

The second session begins at 12 noon Eastern, on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, with samplings of high grade Small Size type notes from a number of collections, including the Menlo Park Collection. Also featured in this Session are bank note errors, highlighted by three different Double Denominations, including a Rare Richmond $10/$5 1928A Double Denomination.

Large Size type notes and Federal Proofs follow in session three, starting at 6 p.m., Jan. 7, 2011. The R.J. Bradley Collection and Menlo Park Collections anchor this session, with many of the high grade, popular type notes being offered from the Menlo Park holdings. Among the collection’s holdings is a Fr. 127 $20 1869 Legal Tenderin PCGS Gem New 65PPQ, one of only two Gems to be offered in the last two years.

National Bank Notes featured in Session Four begins at 6 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. Perhaps the largest offering of Florida Nationals at auction will be highlighted by the Everglades Collection of Florida National Bank Notes, including a scarce Orlando 1902 Large Size Plain Back. Extensive Iowa holdings will be offered as part of the Dr. Larry Miller Collection. Highlights from the Hawkeye state include a $50 1882 Brown Back from Davenport, and an elusive 1929 Small Size $20 from the elusive town of Lost Nation.

The 2700+ Non-Floor Session lots will also be available for viewing at FUN Tampa. Session Five will close on Heritage Live on Sunday, January 9, beginning at 6:00 p.m. CT and Session Six will close on Monday, January 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
