Giant Stone Bust Discovered in Egypt |
CAIRO, EGYPT.- A giant bust made of stone that weighs eleven tons has been discovered in the city of Zaqaziq, northeast of Cairo. The bust could belong to the queen Nefertari, wife of pharaoh Ramses II or his daughter Meret Amun, reported the Al Ahram newspaper. They also discovered next to the bust rests of statues of Ramses II, the most important pharaoh of the 19th dinasty that ruled Egypt from 1539 to 1075 B.C. Zahi Hawas, general secretary of the Superior Council of Egyptian Antiquities stated, "The head represents a queen with a long wig, with the face surrounded by the wings of goddess Nejbet, known as the woman of the valley."
