LONDON.- Frieze Art Fair announced today that the EMDASH Foundation, a new organisation that aims to encourage and enable the ideas of the future, from artistic and cultural projects to scientific research, will be the new supporter of Frieze Projects and the EMDASH Award.

Frieze Projects, the fair's unique curatorial programme, will once again be curated by Sarah McCrory. Frieze Art Fair offers the artists commissioned by Frieze Projects an opportunity to use the fair as a site in which they can realise ambitious ideas in an exceptional environment. Frieze Art Fair is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.

Founded by Andrea Dibelius in 2010, the EMDASH Foundation's activities are motivated by philanthropy, a commitment to supporting new ideas and emerging talent and a love for the arts.

Frieze Art Fair and the EMDASH Foundation are also launching the EMDASH Award, a major opportunity for an emerging artist working outside the UK to realise a new work at Frieze Art Fair as part of the critically acclaimed Frieze Projects programme. The award replaces the Cartier Award.

The EMDASH Award 2011 opens its application process today. Entrance to the award is by open submission and the winner will be selected by an international panel of artists and curators. The winner will receive a commission to make a new work to be shown at Frieze Art Fair 2011, an artist's fee, a production budget of £10,000 and a three-month residency at Gasworks in London. The EMDASH Foundation will provide the opportunity for a presentation of the winning artist's work during Gallery Weekend Berlin 2012.

Proposals for work can take the form of site-specific installations; performance; film; video or print work. Applicants will be judged on the innovative nature of their proposal and its suitability for realisation at Frieze Art Fair. The EMDASH Award is open to non-UK-based artists within five years of graduating from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or under 35 years of age.

The selection committee for The EMDASH Award 2011 comprises: Andrea Dibelius, EMDASH Foundation; Rowan Geddis, Residencies Co-ordinator Gasworks; Simon Martin, Artist; Sarah McCrory, Curator, Frieze Foundation; Janneke de Vries, Director, GAK Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst; Amelie von Wedel, EMDASH Foundation.

The closing date for applications is 7 March 2011. The winner of the award will be announced in May 2011.

Andrea Dibelius, founder of the EMDASH Foundation commented on the new partnership: 'The EMDASH Foundation is delighted to be the supporter of Frieze Projects, Frieze's critically acclaimed curatorial programme. The EMDASH Award offers the winning artist a unique platform to realise a major new work as part of Frieze Projects - before the eyes of the international art world. The launch of the EMDASH Award this year underlines the Foundation's commitment to supporting the arts and promoting new ideas.'

Amanda Sharp Co-Director of Frieze Art Fair said: 'A new charitable foundation with ambitions to encourage primarily artistic and cultural ideas is to be greatly welcomed and the founder, Andrea Dibelius, congratulated. We are delighted that the EMDASH Foundation has chosen to support Frieze Projects and the EMDASH Award at its launch. We very much look forward to working together.'
