Anthony McNerney Appointed Head of Contemporary Art at Bonhams

LONDON.- Bonhams announced this week that Anthony McNerney has been appointed Head of Contemporary Art. He takes up this new role on February 14th.

Anthony McNerney has considerable experience and in-depth knowledge of the international Contemporary Art market. He has been involved at the forefront of the emerging markets of the Middle East and Asia as well as with the established European and American arenas. He has an extensive international network of clients.

Anthony commenced his career at Christie's in 1995, on completion of a BA in Fine Art and Art History, and worked in the Post-War Contemporary Art departments until October 2007.

Initially Head of the Contemporary and Post-War Art departments at Christie's South Kensington, Anthony was subsequently appointed Head of the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sales at Christie’s King Street and then co-Head of The Contemporary Sales in London. He became an Associate Director of Christie's in 2005 and Director in 2007.

In 2007, Anthony left Christie’s for Phillips de Pury & Company where he was appointed Director of Contemporary Art, UK and in 2009 joined forces with Ben Brown Fine Arts as their Managing Director.

Jonathan Horwich, Global Director of Picture Sales at Bonhams, comments: “Tony is a very important appointment for Bonhams as Contemporary Art is an area in which we are committed to seriously raising our game. His arrival will go a long way towards achieving that thanks to his enormous knowledge of the subject and his extensive international connections. We look forward to welcoming him to Bonhams.”
