LONDON.- The collection features Spanish sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and painter Joan Miro, a key figure in the Surreailist movement. His exquisite 1960 etching with aquatint ‘Grand Vent’ are on display, as well as a 1974 lithograph Affice pour L’Exposition Miro, Louisiana’. Several iconic images by Salvador Dali are included, such as ‘Port Ligat (Venus with Drawers)’, a 1970 lithograph inspired by his 1936 sculpture ‘Venus de Milo with Drawers’, and a phallic cosmological 1974 print ‘The Gelatinous Watches of Space Time’. A lithograph by American Pop Artist Jim Dine also uses the Venus de Milo as its inspiration, ‘The Bather (Venus)’ 2005, reinterprets the classical muse using primary colours and clothing her in a yellow basque.

Pop Artist Allen Jones, who famously created a table from the female form in the swinging ‘60s (“Hatstand and Chair”, 1969), is also featured in the exhibition. Jones is a Royal Academician with an international reputation as a painter, printmaker and sculptor, who has been the subject of retrospectives at the Serpentine Gallery, ICA and Barbican. ‘Scream Collection II” features silkscreen prints by ‘Father of Op-Art’, Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely, who developed the oeuvre of optical imagery during the hazy days of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Vasarely pushed the boundaries with his kinetic visual experiments, and his work is featured in museum and private collections all over the world. The exhibition also features lithographs by French expressionist painter Bernard Buffet.

Following this exhibition, Russell Young will be exhibiting new work in a highly anticipated follow up to his sell out 2010 show at Scream from 7 April to 14 May. Run by Jamie and Tyrone Wood, Scream Gallery has a curatorial programme that intersperses exhibitions of iconic modern masters from the Scream Collection, with shows of emerging contemporary artists such as the recent group show ‘States of Reverie’. Scream Gallery opened in June 2006 and since then has presented a diverse exhibition programme including counter-culture cartoonist R. Crumb, legendary fashion and music photographer David Montgomery, and young contemporaries including Mark Evans, Russell Young, Pakpoom Silaphan and Bruce French.
