Hundreds of Chinese Rarities Headline CICF Rosemont, IL World Coin Event from Heritage Auctions

DALLAS, TX.- A wide array of international numismatic rarities, including fine examples of Chinese, Polish, Russian, Australian and South American coins, and the highly specialized Dana Roberts Collection of Latin American coins – including dozens of coins than have not been offered at auction in decades – make up Heritage Auctions’ Rosemont Signature® World and Ancient Coins Auction, presented in conjunction with the Chicago International Coin Fair (CICF), April 15-18.

“We are excited to offer the largest selection of Chinese coins Heritage has ever presented with more than 500 coins,” said Cristiano Bierrenbach, Vice President of International Numismatics at Heritage. “One of our favorite coins in the CICF auction is a spectacular Chinese Empire silver Pattern dollar, Hsuan Year 3 (1911) that we expect to bring in excess of $50,000.”

A Honduran Republic gold 10 Pesos 1889, KM58, AU58 NGC, a superb example of this extremely rare and classic Central American coin, is expected to bring $65,000+.

“The 10 Pesos is only known for two dates, 1883 and 1889,” said Warren Tucker, Vice President of World Coins at Heritage, “and the 1889 is by far the rarer of the two. The XF45 specimen in the Eliasberg sale brought $74,750, so we’re all very curious to see how collectors value this superb example.”

A trio of far flung rarities all check-in for the auction with estimates of $30,000+, with an Australian George V 1934 Proof penny KM23, Proof 64 BN PCGS, just one of 100 known, the first among equals in this instance. The George V penny is followed by a stunningly beautiful Brazilian Joao V gold 3200 Reis 1749R, KM155, Fr-47, MS65 NGC, one of the two of this type that sit atop the entire known 3200-strong census of these rare coins, while an intriguing and seductively dark Russian Nicholas I Novodel 1-1/2 Family Rouble 1836, in which the clearly visible diagnostic break between 4 and 5 o'clock denotes that this piece is the uncommon Novodel issue, making it an attractive coin indeed to collectors of Russian rarities.

Further highlights include, but are not limited to:

• Portuguese D. Sancho I gold Morabitino (180 Dinheiros) ND (1185-1211AD) Coimbra, Friedberg 1, MS63 PCGS: Estimate: $25,000+.

• Polish Nicholas I of Russia Proof 10 Zlotych 1-1/2 Roubles 1836 HГ, KM-C134, Bit-1090, Proof 65 NGC: Estimate: $25,000+.

• Chinese Kweichow Auto Dollar Year 17 (1928), KM-Y428, L&M-609, AU58 PCGS: Estimate: $25,000+.

• South African Republic gold Pond 1892 Double Shaft, KM10.1, MS65 NGC: Estimate: $15,000+.

• Brunswick-Luneburg. Christian Ludwig 5 Taler 1664, Dav-LS186, KM232, VF-XF: Estimate: $14,000+.
