LONDON.- Bonhams, the international fine art auction house, has announced the appointment of Dr Thomas Kamm as the companys Senior Representative in Germany, with immediate effect.
Dr Kamm, has had a distinguished career as an art academic and leading journalist in the art world. For more than twenty years Dr Kamm has worked at as an editor or editor-in-chief in the German art market press for highly regarded publications such as Museumswelt, Weltkunst, Antiquitaetenzeitung and Kunst und Auktionen. As a result his network of German and European art collectors, curators, art dealers, auctioneers, art consultants and art historians is second to none.
Matthew Girling, Bonhams CEO Europe, said: We welcome Thomas Kamm as a very significant appointment for Bonhams in Germany and in Europe where he is a well known and respected figure in the art world. His arrival as part of the Bonhams team will doubtless build on our growing success in Europe.
Dr Kamm comments: "I'm very much looking forward to this next exciting challenge. It gives me great pleasure and honor to be involved in the further development of this long-established auction house, to which I can bring my energy and my specialist knowledge."
Dr Kamm studied Art History in Munich and the doctoral program in Salzburg. His first job in 1989 was as an editorial assistant for the art magazine MUSEUMSWELT in Baden-Baden.
The following year he moved to the leading German art trade magazine WELTKUNST, Munich, and was there for 15 years as an editor. His editorial focus was inter alia in the ancient art (painting, sculpture), and he also oversaw the art and antiques market in Austria dealing with art dealers, galleries, auctions, fairs and museums.
Since 2005 he has worked as a deputy editor at the art newspaper KUNST UND AUKTIONEN (formerly ANTIQUTÄTEN ZEITUNG), ZEIT Kunstverlag, Munich.
He lives with his wife Stefanie, a freelance art historian, and their children Severin, 17, and Donata, 14, near Rosenheim, situated almost exactly halfway between Munich and Salzburg. He is an enthusiastic yachtsman and climbs in the nearby mountains.
