LONDON.- 2011 marks the fourth year of FreshFacedandWildEyed, The Photographers’ Gallery’s annual showcase of graduate and postgraduate photography. Building on the Gallery’s commitment to supporting new talent, and in recognition of the remarkable quality of photographic courses across the UK, FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 provides a platform for those photographers and artists who are producing particularly strong and innovative work.

Twenty-one artists, who completed their studies in the past year, have been selected by a panel of photography experts. The judges for 2011 are: Edmund Clark, photographer; Tim Clark, editor-in-chief of 1000 Words Photography Magazine; Louise Clements, Artistic Director at QUAD and FORMAT International Photography Festival; and Brett Rogers, Director, The Photographers’ Gallery.

The featured artists have graduated from courses across the UK, including The Glasgow School of Art, University of Wales, Newport and University of the Arts London. The range of the submissions, both geographically and stylistically, demonstrate the vibrancy of the medium in the UK.

This year, FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 takes place online while The Photographers’ Gallery undergoes extensive redevelopment. The Gallery will reopen its transformed building on Ramillies Street, just off Oxford Street, to the public late this year complete with three dedicated galleries, an education floor and improved Bookshop, Print Sales and Café.

Submissions were made online between 1 and 24 June 2011. Applicants could submit up to eight jpeg images with the medium, title, and date of each work along with basic personal information, including details of the course they recently graduated from and their tutor’s name and contact details. Space for a short artist’s statement on the submitted project or their work in general was also available. The judging took place on 28 June 2011 with the selected works presented online from 6 July 2011 onwards.

The Photographers’ Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting, educating and engaging people with photography and has always actively supported emerging photographic talent in the UK. As well as FreshFacedandWildEyed it also presents The Photographers’ Gallery Graduate Award (1998 – ongoing), an annual award for students from the MA Course in Photography at the Royal College of Art.
