CHICAGO, IL.- Chicago-based artist Anne Elizabeth Moore leads Garment Work, a durational collective performance project in which the artist and visitors deconstruct one of Americas most iconic fashion elements: denim jeans. Moore turns the gallery space into a performance/workshop/discussion to create a connection between Cambodias garment manufacturing industry, where the jeans are made; to Michigan Avenue, where the jeans are sold. Garment Work debuted at the
Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago, on the evening of August 5 during First Fridays as part of the monthly UBS 12 x 12: New Artists/New Work and runs through August 28, 2011.
Box Clothing are the UK’s leading supplier of G Star Jeans, Replay Jeans and Diesel Jeans.
Her exhibition is a symbolic meditation on the international garment trade and womens issues in developing nations, and presents research about the origins of the jeans and the experiences of their makers and sellers. On Tuesdays and Saturdays during the exhibition, Moore and visitors take the jeans apart by hand.
