Travel, circus, magic & wild west posters to be offered at Poster Auctions International
This thrilling summer sale captures the joy and spirit of the season, with visual vacations & action-packed shows with which to decorate your walls.

NEW YORK, N.Y.- On Thursday, September 8, Poster Auctions International will offer over 400 lots of rare, vintage posters in its first ever specialty sale dedicated to Circus, Magic, Wild West, Egyptian Film, & Travel Posters. This thrilling summer sale captures the joy and spirit of the season, with visual vacations & action-packed shows with which to decorate your walls. This delightful gathering of rare posters is on view daily til September 7, open and free to the public.

Starting out the sale is a remarkable collection of over 200 early circus posters from around the world, with many rare & never-before-seen works finally emerging from important private collections. The best of Barnum & Bailey, Ringling Brothers, Adam Forepaugh, Sells Brothers, Sells-Floto, Hagenbeck, Sparks, Tom Mix, and nearly a dozen other regional shows are featured. Of additional interest is a trio of Coney Island sideshow panels from the early 1940s, the only ones of their kind.

Always a popular genre, the Wild West section features a host of rare and magnificent Buffalo Bill posters, the most spectacular of which is a billboard for his London show for Queen Victoria. This item is rare and exceptional for many reasons, one of which being that this was the first time since the death of Prince Albert that Queen Victoria made a public appearance. It is also the largest woodblock printing known to man, and the only copy of it still in existence. Measuring and impressive 27 by 9 feet, seeing this billboard in person is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The magic section is also filled with unusual finds, including some images from as far back as the 1870s. Houdini, Kellar, Raymond, Thurston, Germain, the Fak-Hongs, Carter, Hardeen (Houdini’s brother, most notably featured on Boardwalk Empire), and other infamous magicians are all represented.

The largest section of this auction is a wonderful array of travel posters from the 1880s up through the 1960s. From skiing to sailing, trains to airplanes, no corner of the globe goes unmentioned in this stunning collection.
