More than 5,600 lots of rare collectible currency offered in Heritage Auctions' Long Beach currency event

DALLAS, TX.- Heritage Auctions, the official auctioneer of the September Long Beach Coin and Currency Exposition, will be presenting more than 5,600 lots of rare and collectible currency as part of its Signature® Currency Auction, Sept. 7-9 and Sept. 11-12.

The lots will be offered in four floor sessions at the Long Beach Exposition and two additional sessions presented online.

“A wonderful selection of Large Size type from the Mayfair Collection and Ron Webber Collection are just two of the highlighted collections to be offered,” said Allen Mincho, Director of Currency Auctions at Heritage. “The Kings Mountain Collection of currency from the Southern Colonies is one of the most extensive offerings of Colonials since the Midnight Ride Collection was offered in 2009.”

Session One kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m. PT with World Bank Notes, followed by selections of Colonial Currency, Canadian Currency, Fractional Currency, notes of the Confederacy and Obsolete Currency.

“The finest offering of Cuban notes since 2008, and a wonderful group of Specimens from Africa, will be just a few of the 400 plus World Notes offered that evening,” said Mincho.

Highlights from those two collections include a Cuba 1868-76 Revolution La Republica de Cuba 1000 Pesos 6.9.1869 Pick 60, a Cuba Republic 10,000 Pesos 1950 Pick 85s Specimen, an Equatorial African States 10000 Francs ND (1968) Pick 7s Specimen and, unlisted in specimen form, a Congo Republic 10000 Francs ND (1971) Pick 1s Specimen.

Significant highlights from the Kings Mountain Collection include a South Carolina February 8, 1779 $40 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 45 as well as a North Carolina 1780 $50 Independence PCGS Very Fine 30. The North Carolina 1780 $50 is just one of many very scarce North Carolina Colonials offered in the collection. A little more than 100 Obsolete Bank Notes will be offered, including the extremely rare and popular Salt Lake City, UT- California & Salt Lake Mail Line $50 1863 along with a major Arkansas rarity, a Little Rock, AR- State of Arkansas $1 March 13, 1875 Cr. 66.

Session Two picks up on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. PT with United States National Bank Notes. Many rarities and notes ensconced in private collections for years are making an appearance, including what is likely the finest graded Alaska National, a Fairbanks, AK - $5 1929 Ty. 2 First NB Ch. # 7718 in PCGS Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ and an ever-popular Tombstone, AZ - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 628 The First NB Ch. # (P)6439.

A Serial Number One Cawker City, KS - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 472 The Farmers & Merchants NB Ch. # 4618, graded PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ, is likely to catch the eye of many bidders, while the first ever public offerings of a Lake Worth, FL - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 607 The First NB Ch. # 11716 and a West Palm Beach, FL - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 634 The American NB Ch. # (S)12057 will pique the interest of Florida collectors.

United States Small Size and Error Notes will be offered on Friday, Sept. 9 at 12 noon PT, starting with a matching pair of New York District ultra high denominations – a Fr. 2221-B $5000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ and a Fr. 2231-B $10000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Very Choice New 64PP – leading the way.

A pleasing and problem free Fr. 2407 $500 1928 Gold Certificate. PCGS Very Fine 25 is included in the session, along with a Fr. 1604* $1 1928D Silver Certificate. PCGS Very Fine 25 and a Fr. 2211-C $1000 1934 Light Green Seal Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Very Choice New 64. The offering of error notes in the same session includes the high grade and very rare Grand Forks, ND - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 658 The Northwestern NB Ch. # 11142 Double Denomination.

Friday evening’s session, at 6 p.m. PT, begins with a selection of Hawaii Proofs and then moves to a broad selection of United States Large Size currency. In addition to the featured Ron Webber Collection, many of the highlights are from The Mayfair Collection, which was assembled over a decade and has been off the market for many years since its completion.
