LONDON.- The Royal Academy is pleased to announce that Pele Cox has been appointed Poet-in-Residence. This new role will help enrich the Royal Academy’s audiences’ understanding and enjoyment of visual arts by creating a link with poetry.

By bringing poetry into the fray Cox will establish new opportunities for collaboration across disciplines. She will engage well known contemporary artists, fashion designers, curators and poets, using the channels forged by fine art and the performance and writing of poetry.

As a poet who has a passion for the visual arts and a strong commitment to engaging a broad and diverse public, Pele Cox will be working closely with the Royal Academy’s Learning Department to help develop an annual programme of events. Pele Cox’s next RA events will include:

Double Exposure: The poetry of photography and photographs, 2 September 2011
This event lies in conjunction with the Royal Academy’s current exhibition, Eyewitness: Hungarian Photography in the 20th Century and will feature the actors Timothy West, Prunella Scales and Christian Roe together with commentary and poems by the well known Hungarian poet, George Szirtes.

This November, Pele Cox will be involved in an event in conjunction with Degas and the Ballet: Picturing Movement where she will explore Degas’s relationship with the poet Mallarmé and his circle. Cox will also be involved with an event to mark the forthcoming David Hockney: A Bigger Picture exhibition at the Royal Academy and a memorial event for Cy Twombly on behalf of his fellow Royal Academicians in collaboration with Nicholas Cullian, the curator of Twombly and Poussin at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
