LONDON.- The Fund, now in its 9th year, enables
Tate to acquire works by emerging and leading international artists from London’s Frieze Art Fair. This year the £150,000 made available by the Fund is the highest ever.
This year’s selection panel is Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate and Tate Curators Ann Gallagher, Frances Morris and Tanya Barson. Each year, two prominent international curators are invited to work alongside Tate’s curators to select works from the Fair. This year they are José Roca, Artistic Director of Philagrafika 2010 and Curator of Mercosul Biennial 2011 and Adam Szymczyk, Director of the Kunsthalle Basel.
The Fund is organised by Outset which was founded in 2003 as a philanthropic organisation dedicated to supporting new art. The charity focuses on raising private funding from its supporters and trustees for public museums, galleries and art projects.
Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate said: “We are delighted by the continuing support of the Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund, a unique partnership that provides an essential annual injection of new acquisition funds. This generosity enables Tate to buy significant works of art for the nation and is increasingly important at a time when funding for acquisitions is so limited.”
The 2011 Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection is organised and funded by Outset Contemporary Art Fund with support from Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts.
