GATESHEAD, ENGLAND.- Baltic is the major new international center for contemporary art, opening summer 2002. The Landmark Building is situated on the south bank of the river Tyne, Gateshead, in the North of england. The project will transform the former Baltic Four Mills, a disused 1950's grain warehouse, into a leading international contemporary arts venue, one of the biggest temporary art spaces in Europe. Baltic is an ambitious project; a new breed of public art space, an 'Art Factory' where artists from all over the world will come and work and where Baltic will provide the opportunity and resources to make art.
