DEDHAM, MA.- Grogan and Company Fine Art Auctioneers and Appraisers announced their upcoming March Two Day Auction will be held on Saturday, March 24th and Sunday, March 25th. The auction will include over 1000 lots of Fine Art, Furniture and Decorations, Silver, Jewelry and Oriental Rugs from many prominent New England estates and collections.

Session one, of the two-day auction, will begin on Saturday at 12 noon and will include property from the Estate of the Reverend Peter J. Gomes. Gomes’ personal collection includes fine art, antiques and books from two residences: Sparks House, Cambridge and Oceanside, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Highlights from his collection include a George III Inlaid Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, estimated at $3,000-5,000 and a 19th century English School Portrait of a Gentleman reading New Monthly Magazine, 50 x 40 inches, estimated at $3,000-5,000 and a silver tipped marshall’s baton Gomes’ used at several Harvard commencements.

Session two will begin on Sunday at 12 noon and will be comprised of property from various estates and collections. The fine art highlights include 19th century French artist, Emile Munier’s, Girl with Kitten, a 24 x 20 inch oil on canvas circa 1878, estimated at $20,000-40,000; a large oil on canvas created in 1968 by Greek modernist painter and designer Spyros Vassiliou’s is estimated at $15,000-25,000; and American artist, Platt Powell Ryder’s Woman Spinning, a 24 x 20 inch oil on canvas once owned by Abraham Adler, co-founder of New York city gallery Hirschl and Adler, is estimated at $2,000-3,000.

The highlights of the Furniture and Decorative Arts offerings in Session two include two pairs of Imperial Russian Porcelain Plates from the period of Nicholas I, each pair estimated at $5,000-7,000; a Lalique Glass Bacchantes Vase, c. 1927, estimated at $3,000-5,000 and an extensive selection of American and European silver features a 19th century French Silver Coffee Service by Alexandre-Auguste Turquet, estimated at $10,000-15,000. A selection of fine gold jewelry features a Two Carat Brilliant cut Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring in platinum and gold setting, surmounted by two 1 carat brilliant cut diamonds, estimated at $20,000-25,000.

American offerings include three Revolutionary War documents pertaining to military appointments for William Jones, former Governor of Rhode Island. The first document dated 1776 is signed by Rhode Island Governor Nicholas Cooke on behalf of King George III, while the second document bears the original signature of John Hancock, and is dated 1776, and the third signed in 1778 by Henry Laurens. All three documents will be sold together with a presale estimate of $3,000-5,000. An 18th century Trade sign from Thomas Tannatt, a Newburyport, Massachusetts baker, reads All sorts of Bread made and sold here by Tho.s Tannatt, and is estimated at $1,200-1,800. Furniture highlights include a Queen Anne Maple and Fruitwood Highboy, estimated at $4,000-6,000 and a 19th century Inlaid Tall Case Clock, made by New York Clock maker Henry C. Williamson, that was formerly in a Westport, Massachusetts family, is estimated at $5,000-7,000.

Textile and rug offerings feature a Second Phase Native American Chief’s Blanket, from the Navajo tribe, circa 1870, once in the collection of Irene Jewett Lunt, former restorer of Navajo Rugs for the Denver Art Museum. The 4 foot by 5 feet blanket is estimated at $6,000-9,000.

The exhibition hours begin Wednesday, March 21st, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m .- 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m .- 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 12 noon.
