HAMBURG.- 'Deconstructive Nudes' is presented by the Hamburg based agency Inner Circle Consultants. Opening June 12th, 2012, the exhibition will feature 10 new large formats by Berlin photo-artist Tomas Erhart as well as 7 of his sequential works - all in the tradition of his first digital photography project „5pm“.

„How much we long to know what tomorrow might be. Perhaps we can see it in the pictures that are so very much today‘s pictures. For example, now we are sad about having tried to be happy ,yesterday‘, when yesterday was still ,today‘. We are sad about having searched for and found the intimacy in sex with somebody else and having lost it again immediately. So, what will there be tomorrow? The memory and the new hope - and the wonderful, poetic, melancholic pictures by Tomas Erhart.
(Maxim Biller, writer)

Already in 2009, Tomas Erhart thrilled and moved the Berlin art scene by creating a new genre with his „CellPhonology“ - his mobile diaries. He was one of the first to document, equipped with only a simple cellphone camera, the numerous facets of his colourful life. The rigid concept of the project was the relinquishment of every kind of staging. Travels, encounters, intimate moments, self portraits and portraits of others were captured for the „CellPhonology“ - series in thousands of authentic shots.

There is a similar dynamic, but a higher sensuality and sexual content in Erhart‘s new series 'Deconstructive Nudes'. We are invited to take part in an intense expedition, final destination: desire! And passion!

The disturbing compositions show objects and people coalesced into an autonomous order in space. Colours are blurred. Shapes cross-fade. The image of naked bodies reminds one of David Hamilton´s pictures. Poses are only to be guessed and can often only be recognised after a good look. The choice of volatile motif reminds one of Terry Richardson.

Tomas Erhart, born in 1964, has been a successful cinematographer for over 20 years. He has filmed more than 60 films, among these were works with directors, such as Oskar Röhler and Volker Schlöndorff.

Erhart manages “to create a unique aesthetic marriage between single takes and moving pictures” (Quote: Uwe Goldstein). These essential aspects of film making are translated on the basis of his expert knowledge as a renowned and award-winning cinematographer into photography. While the spectator is forced to transform into a peeping Tom, the artist provokes and tempts us, and suspends our viewing habits. 'Deconstructive Nudes' is an ingenious and refreshingly new interpretation of the classic nude study.
