New Deputy President and Secretary for Royal Scottish Academy

EDINBURGH.- The Royal Scottish Academy of Art & Architecture announced that during the recent General Assembly of Academicians, Victoria Crowe was appointed Deputy President of the Academy and Marion Smith RSA was been elected as Secretary.

Victoria Crowe and Marion Smith will work alongside incumbent office bearers Arthur Watson PRSA (President) and Ian Howard RSA (Treasurer). Victoria Crowe fills the vacancy left by former Deputy President Will Maclean RSA, who will retain his role as Academy Librarian. Marion Smith fills the vacancy left by former Secretary Arthur Watson, who was recently elected President, following the death of former president Bill Scott PPRSA earlier this year.

Victoria Crowe OBE RSA FRSE was born in Kingston-Upon-Thames (1945) and studied at Kingston School of Art and the Royal Academy of Art, London. She began her teaching career at Edinburgh College of Art in 1968 and was elected an Associate Member of the RSA in 1987, gaining full membership in 2005. She took early retirement from ECA in 1998 and was awarded the OBE for services to art in 2005. She now divides her time between her homes in the Scottish Borders and Venice, working at her studios in both locations.

Marion Smith RSA was born in Fife (1969) and studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen and the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem, The Netherlands. She has worked in various roles at the Scottish Sculpture Centre in Lumsden, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Glasgow School of Art, Crawford Arts Centre in St Andrews and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. She was elected an Associate Member of the RSA in 1998, gaining full membership in 2005. She lives and works in Fife and her work can be seen at permanent public sites across Scotland.
