SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA.- Photographer, stage actor, and director Basil Langton, 91, died. He was born in Bristol, England on January 9, 1912. He founded the Traveling Repertory Theater during World War II. The theater company toured Britain and performed in bombed cities, munitions factories and army camps. Among the members of the company were Dame Sybil Thorndike, Margaret Leighton, Sir Lewis Casson, Paul Scofield and Eric Porter.
After World War II he went to live to the United States.
During the 1960’s he started photographing artists during their work. Among these were Henry Moore, David Hockney, Georgia O’Keeffe and Joan Miró. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held an exhibit of his photographs.
