The Speed Art Museum announces Co-Interim Directors appointed during search for New Director
Erbes joined the museum in 1999 and currently serves as the Speed’s Director of Collections and Exhibitions and Curator of Decorative Arts and Design. He manages a team of registrars, art preparators, and other staff; oversees collections registration and care; and plans, designs and executes gallery spaces and exhibitions.

LOUISVILLE, KY.- The Speed Art Museum Board of Trustees announced that Lisa Resnik, David Knopf and Scott Erbes have been elected to serve as Co-Interim Directors during the museum’s search for a new permanent Director/CEO. As previously announced on August 15, 2012, current CEO Charles Venable has accepted the position of Director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Venable’s last day at the Speed will be September 23.

Together, the three Co-Interim Directors will serve on a Leadership Team, directing the operations and implementing the strategies of the Speed Museum. Lisa Resnik, COO of the museum, will also serve as Chair of the Leadership Team and will have signing authority for all documents requiring the signature of the Speed Director.

“We are extremely fortunate the Speed has such talented staff in place and have great confidence that the interim structure will be highly effective during this critical transitional time for the museum,” said Allan Latts, incoming Chairman of the museum’s Board of Trustees.

“We are sorry to see Charles go, but wish him the best of luck. The success we have realized over the past five years is not only a credit to Charles’ leadership, but also the hard work and dedication of our highly talented and experienced staff,” added current Chairman Todd Lowe.

At a recent meeting, the Board also chartered a Search Committee to be led by Lowe. “Because of the strength of our new Leadership Team, we know we have the luxury of time to find the right person to lead our organization as we open the new building and create the new Speed Art Museum of the future,” Lowe said.

Resnik has more than 20 years of experience in non-profit fundraising and campaign planning, administration and organization stewardship. Her background includes extensive work in higher and secondary education and the visual and performing arts. She joined the Speed in 2007 as a campaign consultant and in 2009 was promoted to Director of Capital Campaign and Strategic Initiatives. In 2011 she was appointed Chief Operating Officer.

Knopf has almost 30 years experience as a CPA, with a background in bank management and accounting. In 1984, he joined the Speed as business manager and was appointed chief financial officer in 2002.

“I know I speak for the entire Board when I say the Trustees have tremendous confidence in this talented Leadership Team and are ready to support the staff as we together embark on our exciting new future. The Museum may be closing September 23, but through the hard work of the staff, Trustees and Governors, we will continue to perform the mission of the Speed – to discover, together with our communities – the joy and power of great art,” said Latts.
