CCA Announces the Power Corporation Prize



MONTREAL, CANADA.- The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) is pleased to announce a new Award Program generously sponsored by Power Corporation of Canada.

The Power Corporation of Canada Prize has been established to heighten the experience of graduate students currently enrolled in Canadian University programs in Architecture at the master degree level. Its goal is also to foster their relations with the CCA and the architectural community in Montreal and across Canada. A total of 12 students over a six-year period will participate in the research activities and benefit from research residencies at the CCA along with the international fellows and scholars at the Study Centre.

“Power Corporation of Canada hopes that this type of contribution will serve as a model of how the business community can support the world’s leading institution in architecture and contribute to the creation of new initiatives there,“ said André Desmarais, President and Co-CEO of Power Corporation.

The students will benefit from the resources of the CCA Library and its unique collection of prints and drawings, photographs, and architectural archives which offer a wealth of material for original research in the practice and theory of architecture throughout its history.

“I am convinced that the Power Corporation of Canada Prize will contribute significantly to the development of architectural education and to strengthening the place of architecture in Canadian society” said Phyllis Lambert, Founding Director and Chair of the Board of Trustees.

“This program adds a new level to a significant array of educational programs designed to reach the widest possible audience at the CCA. Nearly 30 per cent of our visitors now engage in these public education activities,” added Nicholas Olsberg, CCA Director.

The Canadian Centre for Architecture is an international research centre and museum founded on the conviction that architecture is a public concern. Based on its extensive collections, CCA is a leading voice in advancing knowledge, promoting public understanding, and widening thought and debate on the art of architecture, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today.
