EDINBURGH.- Tania Kovats Oceans is an exhibition that includes an artwork, All the Seas, which collects water from all the worlds seas, gathered with the help of a global network of people drawn in by the idea of bringing all the waters of the world to one place.
The Fruitmarket Gallery is using social media and word of mouth to connect with people from all over the world, to ask them to collect water and send it to The Fruitmarket Gallery, where it will be turned into a sculpture by Tania Kovats and shown as part of her exhibition Oceans in March 2014.
To take part all people need to do is collect seawater in a bottle or container, label it with the name of the sea, package it up and send it to The Fruitmarket Gallery, 45 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DF, Scotland.
As social media is a big part of the project we are asking people to take a photograph of the sea from which they are collecting the water from and share it on their social networks and upload it to the Tania Kovats Oceans website or Facebook or Twitter or all three. As an acknowledgement, their name will become part of the work All the Seas when the exhibition Oceans opens at The Fruitmarket Gallery.
Water must be delivered to The Fruitmarket Gallery by 15 December 2013. (There are no customs or environmental health issues with sending seawater by post.)
A list of the oceans and seas can be found on Tania Kovats Oceans website
