Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit names Elysia Borowy-Reeder as new Executive Director
Borowy-Reeder will provide adept leadership at the seven-year-old non-collecting institution.

DETROIT, MI.- The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit announced the appointment of their new Executive Director Elysia Borowy-Reeder. Borowy-Reeder, a Getty Museum Leadership Fellow and Michigan native, was most recently the Executive Director of the Contemporary Art Museum Raleigh and has worked at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. With a curatorial background, strong educational foundation, and over a decade of experience in arts management, communications, and education, Borowy-Reeder will provide adept leadership at the seven-year-old non-collecting institution. “A primary focus will be fulfilling MOCAD’s educational and curatorial vision and heightening community engagement with an emphasis on youth involvement at the museum,” explained the new Executive Director. “We’re staying true to our mission—new art and new ideas—the museum’s history of risk-taking and experimentation and its dedication to such endeavors in the future makes it unique and purposeful. I look forward to contributing to its evolving mission and I am delighted to be selected by the MOCAD Board and the Search Committee.”

“The depth and breadth of Elysia Borowy-Reeder’s experience and passionate intelligence were among the many reasons we selected her for the position,” said Marsha Miro, President of the Board at MOCAD. “We believe that with her engaging personality, she will lead our young institution to the next stage, giving it stability and longevity without losing any of its edge.”

Borowy-Reeder will assume her post on April 8, 2013.

Elysia Borowy-Reeder is an experienced art professional. A graduate of the Getty Museum Leadership Initiate and the Yale School of Management certificate program, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from Antioch College and Master’s Degrees in both Art Education and Art History from Michigan State University. Her previous professional positions include Executive Director at CAM Raleigh; Executive Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Graphic Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Senior Director of Communications at the Milwaukee Art Museum; and Associate Director of Marketing at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. She has curated and managed exhibitions at major art institutions, galleries, and fairs internationally.
