LONDON.- This year, the 20|21 International Art Fair will take place at the Royal College of Art in Kensington Gore, London SW7, from 9 – 12 May 2013. It will be opened by A.A. Gill at 12 noon on the 9th.

Now in its seventh year, the fair moves from February to May. The change, due to commitments at the College, has proved popular with exhibitors and the new dates are expected to encourage more visitors to this prestigious Kensington venue.

On show will be modern and contemporary art from Britain and around the world. There are a number of dealers who specialise in work from Japan, India, Russia, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine and, new this year, three dealers in French art and one in Moroccan art – a first for the fair. There will also be art from a host of other countries making a truly eclectic selection.

The ‘boutique’ fair has carved out a special place in the arts calendar. International names include Matisse, Miró, Picasso, Braque, Modigliani, Chagall (all works on paper), plus British 20th century favourites such as Henry Moore, David Hockney, Peter Blake, Grayson Perry and Damien Hirst, together with many emerging and less well known artists whose work will be there to be discovered and appreciated. An added attraction is a section devoted to works by the Royal College of Art’s renowned Printmaking Department.

The 60 dealers, most of whom are based in the UK, will offer works in various media including oils, original prints, watercolour, drawings, collage, some photography and sculpture, ranging in period from 1900 to the present day. The manageable size, variety of work on view, coupled with a broad price range, accounts for the fair’s popularity with visitors and dealers alike.

PERPETUAL INTEREST IN ART
Visitor numbers to art fairs and major art exhibitions continue to hold up well, showing that even in a challenging economic climate, collecting works of art still plays an important role in people’s lives. They may not be moving house but there is always room for another well-priced picture!

‘This fair seems to go from strength to strength. We also think the date change will be advantageous as the art fair calendar in the early part of the year is very crowded whilst May seems surprisingly quiet, so the fair will mark the start of the summer season,’ say the organisers, Gay Hutson and Angela Wynn who also run the successful 20|21 British Art Fair each September at the same venue.

The UK and, London in particular, is more cosmopolitan than ever. This is reflected in the art market and, of course, in the 20|21 International Art Fair!
