NEW YORK, NY.- Arte Primitivo Gallery which specializes in Tribal and Pre-Columbian Art, Classical, Egyptian and Asian Antiquities, in New York City, NY, announced the opening of an Exhibit of well provenanced, Fine Pre-Columbian Textile & Works of Art featuring the collection of Judith Hillburg.
Arte Primitivo will be hosting a cocktail opening on Wednesday May 15, 2013 from 6:30pm 9:00 pm, the exhibit will remain open until June 30th . Viewing hours are Monday Friday 11:00 5:00.
The exhibit will feature numerous pre-Columbian textiles consisting of mantas, tunics, and decorative tapestries. Selections from many cultures are represented including Nazca, Inca, Chancay, Chimu, Huari and Sihuas.
Among the featured items are a splendid selection of Pre-Columbian art Including a fabulous Colima, Comala Style seated male holding a vessel published in Townsend Ancient West Mexico Art and Archeology of the Unknown Past page 99 Fig. 17. Also exhibited is a large very powerful seated Jalisco Male Figure from the Cheng-Ley Family Collection; a large offering of Maya ceramics and stone items including two Ulua Valley alabaster vases, numerous great painted Maya cylinders and jades including an amazing green apple jade belt celt and several giant Brazilian Marajoara vessels.
There are several Tribal and Oceanographic items including an outstanding early Nias Ancestral Figure from Indonesia ex. Helena Rubenstien & Ren Rasmussen collections; a large pair of Goarabari Island Gope Boards; a Yoruba, Nigerian Shrine Figure ca. 16th century; Ekoi Janeiform Helmet, Cross Rivers, Nigeria from the Oscar Meyer Collection just to name a few. Several other examples of fine pre-historic art includes an amazing full-sized Egyptian Sarcophagus with French Passport.
