A Major New Series On BBC TWO “Restoration” |
|

LONDON, ENGLAND.- Across the UK thousands of historic buildings are in danger of being lost to the nation forever. This disturbing fact is a sad reflection on the state of the nation’s heritage, but there are people out there attempting to reverse this trend and rescue our most treasured architectural and historic landmarks from dereliction.
This summer, BBC TWO features a new call to action in the fight to save our architectural heritage, and offers the viewers a chance to join the Restoration campaign.
With comedian and active conservationist, Griff Rhys Jones, at the helm, viewers will be asked to vote for and help save one of 30 of our most endangered buildings.
Travelling the length and breadth of the UK, each programme in the ten-part series will focus on one geographical area. Griff will lead us on an in-depth tour of three endangered properties in that area, and then offer the viewers the opportunity to vote for the building they would most like to see restored.
Every historic building has a wealth of tales to tell, and, with the help of two experts, conservation architect, Ptolemy Dean, and historic buildings surveyor, Marianne Suhr, the series will bring the buildings back to life and depict them in their prime.
Spanning the ages from the Medieval to the Modern, the 30 buildings represent a wonderful array of architectural styles and reveal the depth and richness of the UK’s heritage. From grand country piles to small, homely crofts, from hospitals and factories to chapels and townhouses, the nation’s heritage belongs to everyone, and this series gives everyone an opportunity to get involved.
Restoration Secrets - Coming this August - A New Series from BBC FOUR. Hot on the heels of the Restoration programmes, this 10-part series from BBC FOUR will immediately follow each episode of Restoration on BBC TWO.
Presented by architectural expert, Jonathan Foyle, the series will focus on properties that have already been successfully restored, and which, although normally closed to the public, will be open during the forthcoming Heritage Open Days. Over 3000 culturally-important buildings will throw their doors open to public during the month of September, and Restoration Secrets will give us a fascinating insight into some of the hidden architectural gems that are right on our door steps.
The winning building from the series will be restored from money raised through the Restoration Fund. Donations can be made by calling: 0871 200 5050
Viewers can vote during transmission by calling: 0901 077 77 77. A minimum of 17.9p from every phone vote (calls charged at 30p) will go towards the restoration of the winning building.
