Steven Sebring's Revolution opens at the 69th Regiment Armory
Three years in development, Revolution is a vision, imagined a century ago, come full circle.

NEW YORK, NY.- 100 years ago Marcel Duchamp’s Nude Descending Staircase No.2 was first exhibited at the 1913 Armory Show in New York City. American art has never been the same. Today Steven Sebring descends onto the same space to unveil an ambitious exhibition. It’s title: Revolution. Through the exploration of motion, Sebring brings emotion to art and science. He evokes the lessons of the modern masters but opens the doors for all to witness to a coup: seeing will never be the same.

Photographs, sculpture, interactive media and a collection of films become a visual symphony in four parts. A four dimensional exploration, a photographic investigation of light from multiple perspectives through time; the fractured Proto-Cubism of Picasso, Braque, and Duchamp re-envisioned; the RIG, a one of a kind process that captures form and movement from every angle; and the persistence of vision as explained by Da Vinci in the 14th century.

Three years in development, Revolution is a vision, imagined a century ago, come full circle. It’s a new approach, an encapsulating gaze that captures the many facets of moving forms — the goal of Cubism and motion picture combined and fully realized — every angle through time. Revolution recreates a magical vision one frame at a time.

Time becomes infinite, and Art evolves.

“Every body that moves rapidly seems to color its path with the impression of its hue. Thus when lightning moves among dark clouds the speed of its sinuous flight makes its whole course resemble a luminous snake. This is because the organ of perception acts more rapidly than the judgment." -Leonardo Da Vinci

Steven Sebring, photographer, filmmaker and multimedia artist, is known for a distinctive style that merges raw realism with high-end fashion. Over the last two decades, Sebring photographed and directed international campaigns for Coach, DKNY, Joe Fresh, MAC, Maybelline, Ralph Lauren and Reed Krakoff. Sebring collaborated with rock legend Patti Smith on an 11-year documentary, Dream of Life, a full-length feature and Sebring’s directorial debut. The film, a plunge into the philosophy and artistry of the cult icon, won a 2008 Sundance Award for Best Cinematography and earned a 2010 Primetime Emmy nomination. Revolution is Sebring’s third exhibition following Illumination in 2011 and Objects of Life in 2009. Sebring’s published works include Dream of Life (2009), Lalanne (2006) and Bygone Days (2005).
