NEW YORK, NY.- Astrid T. Hill recently announced the launch of Monticule Art, a New York-based art advisory firm specializing in contemporary works from both the primary and secondary market.

Hill will draw on her years of experience buying and curating as well as exposure to the art market to provide in-depth strategic guidance to new and seasoned collectors alike. In addition to performing extensive research and attending art fairs, auctions and gallery openings across the globe on behalf of clients, Monticule Art will provide introductions to art insiders as well as access to top conservation, lighting, framing and installation experts.

Hill was exposed to the art world at a young age and educated in connoisseurship at Christie’s Education before becoming a collector herself. She said, “My father is an avid collector, so I grew up surrounded by the art world and developed a strong affinity for contemporary art. Starting this advisory was a natural progression for me as a collector looking to share my knowledge and passion with other collectors, whether they are just starting out or already established and looking for long-term management.”

One of three co-chairs of the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council, Hill is actively involved in choosing acquisitions for the museum’s permanent collection and benefits from direct access to top museum curators, emerging artists and industry events. She previously held a position at Van de Weghe Fine Art, where she was involved in sales and daily operations.

“I relied on Astrid to set up shop for Van de Weghe at international art fairs – including Art Basel Miami, Art Basel Switzerland, FIAC, The Pavilion of Art and Design, and Maastricht,” said gallery owner and renowned art dealer Christophe Van de Weghe. “During her time at the gallery, she developed a natural rapport with high-profile clients and I have no doubt that she will succeed on her own as an art advisor.”

Monticule Art will help clients navigate the art market intelligently by assisting them in identifying works that strike a balance between likeability and value. In addition to providing curatorial guidance and introductions to exclusive dealers, gallerists and curators, the advisory will also offer all services that accompany the purchasing of art – including negotiation, valuation, authentication, transportation, handling, framing and installation.

Hill has a keen eye for discerning artists who will sustain both critical and commercial success.

“Astrid has a cutting edge sensibility and great knowledge of up and coming artists,” said Washington D.C.-based collector Dan Sallick. “But just as important, she has detailed knowledge of the art market. Her rare combination of a great aesthetic sensibility, knowledge of art history and an understanding of market forces make her a trusted advisor.”
