ADELAIDE.- The Art Gallery of South Australia is proposing an Art Discovery Centre for the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) site. The Art Gallery has a nationally recognised collection valued at over $600 million. At the RAH site there exists an opportunity to develop an Art Discovery Centre that activates the collection currently held in storage.
The Art Discovery Centre prioritises the Gallery's communication role by providing affective and cognitive experiences and inter-generational learning opportunities where people can develop a shared appreciation of our cultural heritage.
Art Gallery of South Australia Director, Nick Mitzevich said The Art Gallery is conscious about having an open dialogue with the city, about using this great asset that we hold for the State to enrich peoples lives.
We see the Art Discovery Centre as an important enhancement to the North Terrace cultural precinct, providing a community and cultural focus for the precinct and an opportunity for a major architectural innovation on the states cultural boulevard. Positioned within walking distance to the Art Gallery of South Australia and surrounding offerings the Art Discovery Centre offers the RAH site an opportunity that connects the cultural, civic, recreational and educational, Mr Mitzevich said.
